Starting a business is terrifying to me. I grew up very poor, so the idea of losing money or starting a business that could fail is nearly overwhelming, even though I am now financially secure. In my head, I know that I can afford to take some chances, but I still have a visceral reaction to the thought of taking that risk. Another challenge I’m facing is my own humility. I’m pretty good at a lot of things. People call me talented, creative, and a host of other complimentary adjectives, but I see all of my weaknesses and everywhere I fall short. When I think of things I could teach or offer to others, I wonder why anyone would choose me when there are so many more talented and skilled people out there. It’s really tough.
